Play gets underway Tuesday in Florida at the first of four 2016 qualifying tournaments for the Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada.
132 players will begin 72 holes of play on the Jack Nicklaus course at Reunion Resort and Spa just south of Orlando and among them will be ten Canadians – eight golfers from Ontario and two from Nova Scotia.
Those competing from Ontario include: Mark Hoffman (Thornhill, Ontario), Andrew Jensen (Ottawa, Ontario), Michael Jiggins (Cambridge, Ontario), Sebastian Szirmak (Toronto, Ontario), Brandon Ng (North York, Ontario), Drew Nesbitt (Oro Medonte, Ontario), Brendan Barrack (Toronto, Ontario), and Stephane Dubois (Brantford, Ontario).
The leading player will earn exempt status on the Mackenzie Tour for 2016 while players finishing 2nd through 16th (no ties) will be exempt through the first re-shuffle. The golfers placing 17th through 40th (plus ties) will earn conditional status.
The facility is not a new one for the TOUR; it previously hosted a qualifying school in 2014 when only one player broke par for the week and it took just a 12-over oar tally to earn conditional status.
In 2015 there was just one Mackenzie Tour Q-School held in Florida and two of the players who earned status that week Albin Choi and Drew Weaver, went on to win Mackenzie Tour events during the season.
