They have new ownership, and now they have new leadership.
This past December the 89-yard old Port Colborne Country Club was purchased by Allan Billyard, Sandy Bollyard, and Nick Durbano, and now the industry veterans have brought in another seasoned professional to lead the team at their new property.
Thomas Vanderlip took on the duties at the Port Colborne club as of February 1st. Vanderlip most recently spent more than a dozen years at the Peninsula Lakes Golf Club in Fenwick. His ever-rising resume has included stops at Copper Creek Golf Club, Tyandaga Municipal Golf Course, Heron Point Golf Links, and King’s Riding Golf Club.
The Burlington native has now been in the industry for more than a quarter century and on top of being a Class A Member of the PGA of Ontario, he is also a member of their Board of Directors.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my years at Peninsula Lakes and will greatly miss the staff and members that have made it such a wonderful time for me,” says Vanderlip. “However, I look forward to starting the next chapter as we begin a new era at this historic golf course. We have some exciting enhancements coming to the club and I look forward to the challenge and hard work”
Port Colborne CC ownership says this hire is the next step in the evolution of the club, moving forward while still retaining the legacy of the venerable facility that opened in 1929 and grew to 18 holes in 1964.
“This is going to be an exciting golf season for us and we look forward to meeting new and returning members,” says owner, Allan Billyard. “We are confident that they’ll appreciate the life we’re putting back into the club, on the eve of its ninetieth anniversary.”
