(Golf Ontario) MINETT— Sudbury’s Tristan Renaud is just 18 holes away from claiming the Investors Group Ontario Junior Boys’ Championship. Renaud, from Idylwylde Golf & Country Club, regained the lead during the third round of the event, July 6 at The Rock Golf Club, and will now take a four-shot advantage into the final round.
Renaud, 16-years-old, entered the round two back of the leader, Mississauga’s Sudarshan Yellamaraju, but things swung quickly. Renaud birdied the second hole while Yellamaraju, started triple-double to relinquish the lead. Renaud would go on to finish the day at even par (70) and is now three-over (68-75-70-213) for the tournament.
Surging into second place was Burlington’s Marcus Khaw. Khaw, from Blue Springs Golf Club, entered the day at eight-over and finished the day under par at one-under (69). Khaw is now seven-over (72-76-69-217) for the championship.
Third place is a three-way tie at 10-over. The tie includes Mississauga’s Matthew Anderson (79-73-68-220), who had one of the low rounds of the day at two-under (68); defending champion Langton’s Peyton Callens (73-74-73-220); and Richmond Hill ‘s Angelo Giantsopoulos (77-70-73-220).
The final round gets underway Friday beginning at 7:30 a.m. with the final group teeing off at 11:00 a.m. As always, spectators are welcome to take in the action and admission is free.
